MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Education announced early Tuesday that classes from kindergarten through high school in Metro Manila are suspended starting 12 noon.
Education Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali said by phone that the regional office has decided to cancel afternoon classes due to heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm “Juaning.”
The suspension was ordered even while there was no storm signal warning over the Metro Manila.
DepEd also suspended classes in kinder, elementary and high school in the Bicol region except for Camarines Norte, where only pre-school classes were suspended.
Kindergarten classes in regions 1 and 3 have been suspended.
The Commission on Higher Education meanwhile has yet to issue an advisory about class suspension. Per CHEd regulations, classes in college and post-graduate are suspended only in areas under Signal No. 3. Otherwise, schools are given the discretion to suspend classes.
