Enriquez recovering, but still needs help

/ 08:29 AM November 07, 2012

TWO YEARS removed from the career-ending spinal injury that stopped the once-promising basketball career of Woodraw Enriquez, the spitfire guard is now appealing for financial support for the rehabilitation process that would hopefully enable him to get back on his feet.

The once-proud and speedy guard, who is now saddled on a wheelchair, reminisced about his playing career that saw him win titles left and right for the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Ninos. He also managed to win a Most Valuable Player award in the Liga Pilipinas tournament.

All those remain as memories of a storied career that was cut short by a horrific injury that he suffered while playing for the Ninos in an exhibition game against the Alaska Aces on March 14, 2010 at the University of San Carlos gym.

In that fateful game, Enriquez drove down the lane and suffered an awkward fall, one that he would not get up from. Later, the doctor’s examinations revealed a cervical spine injury that would sideline the former Cebu Doctors University Stallion for good.

Two years has passed and Enriquez has made significant strides on his road to recovery. But the medical expenses have put a strain on his finances, hence his appeal for help.

“I’m getting better especially with rehab but unfortunately, I had to stop because the expenses were really piling up,” said Enriquez. “I’m appealing to those kind souls for help and assistance. Any kind would do,” Enriquez added.
