The Philippine Christian Gospel School (PCGS) Blue Lions emerged champion in the HoopStars inter-school 3-on-3 basketball tournament held at the J Centre Mall over the weekend.
The Blue Lions trounced the St. Alphonsus Catholic School (SACS) Eagles in their best-of-three finals showdown, 2-0, to bag the 16-under crown of the tournament.
Big man Aldred Du showed why he deserved the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in 16-under division as he pumped in six points in Game One to help PCGS trounce SACS, 13-8. He then had four markers in Game Two to steer the Blue Lions to a 12-4 victory and complete the sweep against the Eagles.
Skipper Jean Ray Tejam kept the momentum for the Blue Lions as he chipped in a total of nine points in both games and worked with teammates Jayzon Christian Sy and Anthony James Limchesing in limiting the Eagles’ production.
In his debut at the 16-under, Ian Renz Singculan, the 2011 series 14-under MVP, could only show six points in both games as he got bothered by an ankle injury he sustained during the playoffs of the tournament backed by Thirsty Juices and Shakes.
Meanwhile, Joshua Riner Ramas showed he still has what it takes to lead San Isidro Parish School (SIPS) as the 12-under MVP during the 2010 series led the team to the 14-under crown. SIPS also beat SACS, 7-3, in Game One and 6-5 in Game Two of the Finals.
Scoring a total of seven points in both games and orchestrating his team’s victory this year, Ramas was chosen as the 14-under MVP of the series made possible by the support of McDonald’s.
The 16-under SIPS Tamaraws finished third place while PAREF Springdale School settled for the bronze in the 14-under category.
The tournament was made possible through the efforts of sponsors Cherifer “Tangkad Sagad” growth vitamins. /pr
