ITCZ to bring rains in Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines – Rainshowers were seen in Mindanao due to an intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the state weather bureau said Tuesday.

“Mindanao will be cloudy with occasional light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its latest bulletin.

An ITCZ is a merge of winds from different directions which becomes a breeding ground for potential cyclones.

Meanwhile, a cold front, wherein cooler mass of air replaces warmer mass of air, is affecting extreme Northern Luzon.

“Batanes Group of Islands will have light rains. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with isolated brief rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening,” Pagasa said.

“Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Eastern Visayas. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to east with slight to moderate seas,” it added.

Fishing boats and other small seacraft were also advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels alerted against big waves as strong to gale force wind was expected to affect the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon.
