The weather bureau on Sunday warned of possible flash floods and landslides in Mindanao, with the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) expected to bring moderate to heavy rains to the region.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecasters on Sunday said the weather in Mindanao is anticipated to be cloudy, with occasional moderate to heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Forecaster Samuel Duran told the Philippine Daily Inquirer the ITCZ is expected to spawn low pressure areas (LPAs). He explained the LPAs are usually embedded in the ITCZ but there was a small chance they could develop into tropical cyclones.
The weather bureau’s 5 p.m. forecast said light rains were expected in the Cagayan Valley as well as Aurora and Quezon as a result of the cold front affecting extreme northern Luzon.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. Jeannette I. Andrade
