Lawyer at Corona impeach case is new prosecutor
CITY OF MALOLOS—One of the prosecution lawyers in the recent impeachment trial of former Chief Justice Renato Corona has been named as the new provincial prosecutor of Bulacan.
Lawyer Renato Samonte, who cross-examined former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza during the trial, took his oath before Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Wednesday in Manila.
Until his new appointment, Samonte, 56, a Bulakan town resident, was senior associate of the Dakila Castro law office.
He earned his law degree in San Beda College in 1980 and served as Bulacan chapter president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines from 2009 to 2011. Carmela Reyes-Estrope, Inquirer Central Luzon
