A major road artery in Navotas City will be closed to vehicular traffic this Thursday and Friday as people flock to the cemeteries in the area.
In a statement, the Navotas City government said that the stretch of Gov. Pascual Street from Bacog to R. Padilla Streets would be closed to traffic on All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
Entrances to the three cemeteries in the city—the Navotas Public Cemetery, Catholic Cemetery and Immaculate Garden Memorial Park—can be found on the stretch.
In a related development, the city government has advised the public against engaging in what it called unacceptable behavior inside the cemeteries. This includes bringing sharp objects, gambling, drinking alcohol and making loud noises. It warned that volunteers will be roaming the cemeteries to ensure that the prohibitions are strictly complied with.
“We want to ensure that these holidays dedicated to remembering our departed loved ones will be simple and solemn,” Navotas Mayor John Reynald Tiangco said in the statement.
The city’s Task Force Disiplina, together with the Navotas police, will provide security to the three cemeteries. The city’s Health Emergency Management Staff will respond to any emergencies while the Liga ng Kalinisan ng Navotas will ensure cleanliness in the area.
