Murder on camera

A closed circuit television camera (CCTV) recorded the killing of Almira Reyes, 38, a businesswoman, by a gunman in in Binondo, Manila, early Monday evening.

Manila Police District homicide chief Joey de Ocampo said that based on the CCTV footage, a few minutes before Reyes was shot and killed by a lone suspect, both were standing right across each other. The footage showed the suspect staring at Reyes, then “crossing the street and opening fire at the victim, and immediately fleeing on foot.”

The victim, who sustained several gunshot wounds, was taken to the nearest hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. The homicide chief said they have yet to determine the motive of the killing.—Nancy C. Carvajal
