Abueva named week’s best in PBA
CALVIN “The Beast” Abueva did not waste time in announcing his arrival to the big leagues as he captured the Player of the Week honors for the period of Oct. 22-28 in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup.
In the Aces’ back-to-back wins over Air21 and Ginebra, the second pick in this year’s draft has averaged 17.5 points, 10.5 rebounds along with his trademark relentless energy that has pushed Alaska to the upper echelon of the league standings.
Abueva had 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a steal in the Aces’ 87-69 romp over the Brgy. Ginebra Kings.
The energy should have flagged, coming as it did on the heels of Abueva’s 16-point, 12-rebound performance in a cruising 92-81 win over Air21 just two days before.
In all, Abueva has averaged 15.7 points and 12.3 rebounds in his first three games as a pro and Alaska has now won four straight that put its losses in its first two games in the tourney way behind it.
The streak moved the Aces into a share of second place in the team standings with Rain or Shine. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
