Mexican Salido retains WBO featherweight belt

WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido of Mexico dominated Kenichi Yamaguchi of Japan to successfully defend his world title by 11th round TKO in front of his home town fans in in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico.

Yamaguchi was knocked down in round three and referee Roberto Ramírez Jr. stopped the one-sided fight at the 2:50 mark of the 11th round. Yamaguchi fought under the banner of ALA Promotions of Cebu and dropped is record to 17 wins (4 KOs), 2 losses and 2 draws. Salido improved to 36 wins (24 KOs) with 11 losses and 2 draws.

Former champion Juan Manuel Lopez of Puerto Rico was in attendance hoping Salido would win. Last April, Salido scored a huge upset when he stopped the previously undefeated Lopez in eight rounds. They are expected to meet in a rematch this October. /correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
