GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines–Police authorities here on Sunday arrested a banana plantation worker on suspicion of involvement in the 2009 Maguindanao massacre.
Senior Inspector Lorenzo Henares, Makar police station chief, identified the suspect as Norhato M. Kamino, alias Alfiche Banding.
He said Kamino formerly worked for the Ampatuan family in Datu Unsay town, Maguindanao and disappeared from the town after the gruesome massacre of 58 people, more than 30 of them, journalists in Ampatuan town on Nov. 23, 2009.
He said Kamino, who was among the nearly 200 suspects ordered arrested for the gruesome killings, resurfaced in Margus in Glan, Sarangani Province months after the massacre before finding work at a banana plantation in T’boli, in South Cotabato.
When the local police received reports that he was here, Henares said they placed the suspect under surveillance before taking him in.
Kamino, Henares said, will be flown to Manila to join other Maguindanao massacre suspects in detention at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.
