LP-Bakud downplays Sonny O’s prediction

The Liberal Party-Bakud tandem of Hilario “Junjun” Davide III and Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale yesterday brushed aside Sen. John Henry “Sonny” Osmena’s prediction of a One Cebu win in next year’s elections.

Davide downplayed the former senator’s prediction that Rep. Pablo John Garcia, the gubernatorial bet of One Cebu, would win over him next year as just “his (former senator Osmeña) own opinion”.

“All I know is that we are working hard to convince people to vote for us,” Davide said.

He also said that Sonny never supported his bid from the start.

Osmeña, who has long expressed his dismay over the choice of Davide as the LP standard bearer, said veteran LP members like himself were not supporting Davide’s campaign.

Davide said there was no truth to Osmena’s remarks and called it mere “propaganda from the other side.”

He said all LP members were consulted every time the party does a major decision.

For the 2013 elections, local party Bakud (Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya) and the administration LP agreed to form a coalition against the One Cebu of the Garcias.

Magpale, for her part, assured Davide and their Cebuano supporters that members of the LP-Bakud coalition would give their 100 percent to support the “Junjun-Agnes” tandem.

Osmeña is running for mayor of Toledo City against incumbent Mayor Aurelio Espinosa.

Magpale and Davide also dismissed rumors that they weren’t supporting each other’s election bids.

Magpale said it was normal for her to get invited to project launches and ribbon-cutting ceremonies by herself.

Davide, however, said he and Magpale would be together in official sorties in the following weeks.
