THE MEN spikers of Carcar reigned supreme in Cluster One action as they claimed the championship via the quotient system over Talisay in the Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup last weekend in Carcar.
Carcar and Talisay were tied at the end of the round-robin competition with six points apiece, which forced organizers to utilize the quotient system to break the tie. Carcar eventually was given the crown by virtue of its higher quotient.
Carcar actually lost to Talisay in their head-to-head matchup, 25-20, 22-25, 15-25, but won over Minglanilla, 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, and Naga, 25-17, 25-14.
Carcar was powered by former University of San Jose-Recoletos ace Ariel Carumba and University of San Carlos spiker Bonvie Estrera.
Talisay, on the other hand, was defeated by Minglanilla, 25-23, 26-28, 22-25 but got a victory over Naga, 25-18, 25-15.
On the distaff side, last year’s runners-up Talisay City, claimed the title by notching eight points, edging a Minglanilla squad that got just seven points.
Talisay, which was led by Florian Gutierrez, swept all of its games, winning over Minglanilla, 25-8, 21-25, 25-18; Naga, 25-18, 25-13; and Carcar, 25-17, 25-11.
Talisay also went home with the 12-under title with five points. It beat Minglanilla, 20-25, 25-16, 25-23 and Carcar, 25-13, 25-20.
