An actress-TV host was reported to be in serious condition after she crashed her car in Marikina City yesterday morning while allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
Six other people were also injured after the sport utility vehicle (SUV) being driven by Alyssa Alano veered into the opposite lane and hit their van.
Alano, whose real name is Jeremye Daud, crashed her SUV into the metal fence dividing the westbound and eastbound lanes of Marcos Highway at 3 a.m. Sunday.
“Alano was traveling westbound at that time when her SUV rammed the center island and hit the metal fence there. She was allegedly driving fast when the incident happened,” Marikina police chief Senior Superintendent Gabriel Lopez said.
Her car then crossed over to the eastbound lane of the road and hit another van traveling in the opposite direction. Inside the other vehicle being driven by Giuseppe Arabejo were five other passengers. All of them were injured.
The police said that after hitting Arabejo’s van, Alano’s SUV flipped over and then stopped. Rescuers had a hard time pulling her out from the wreck.
“They noted that the airbag of the car did not inflate. They said they found a bottle of liquor inside [the vehicle],” Lopez said.
All the injured were taken to Marikina Valley Medical Center.
Lopez said the incident happened in a well-lit area of Marcos Highway near SM Marikina.
“That area was not accident-prone. However, Alano was drunk when the incident happened according to responders,” he added.
