Pecandela wins, solidifies hold of lead in IBP basketball

PECANDELA Law Firm-Primary Homes posted its fifth win after beating the Eagles, 81-64, last Saturday to strengthen its hold of the lead in the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-2012, 9th Season basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym.
Pecandela led by a single-digit in the first two periods but pulled away in the second half to seal the 17-point drubbing.
Sam Malazarte and Francis Pepito led Pecandela with 20 and 15 points, respectively, while Marven Miralles and Al Lagahit paced Eagles (1-4) with 14 and 13 markers.
In the other game, Bhutakalz formerly Young Lawyers Association of Cebu (YLAC) shocked defending champion Super Idols, 73-69 in overtime.
The Super Idols led in the first 3 periods but Bhutakalz outscored them in the fourth, 31-17 including Boyet Velez’s booming triple that tied the count at 64-all that sent the game into overtime.
In the extension period, the Bhutakalz outscored the Idols, 9-5 for the win.
Earlier, the Dissenters scored a come-from-behind, 79-74 win over Los Demonyos.
Los Demonyos led by 17 in the third, 65-48 behind a 27-12 run but the Dissenters responded with a scorching, 31-9 bomb for the 5-point victory.
Kern Sesante led the Dissenters with 23 points while Lito Ortiz paced Demonyos with 14.
