Cebu Province awards 129 college scholarships

This scholarship program is a way to fulfill our dreams.” This was said by Edmon Emperio, 9th placer of the May 2012 Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure examination, as he addressed the 129 new set of students who were awarded scholarship certificates by the Cebu Provincial government.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, who revived the scholarship program eight years ago, said the goal of CTEAP is to give the less fortunate individuals an opportunity to finish their studies.

“When I look at you, I see the future of Cebu,” Garcia told the scholars.

A recognition of the new CTEAP scholars and an awarding of the graduates were held last Tuesday at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Social Hall.

Cash incentives of P5,000 were given to the CTEAP batch 2012 graduates, P30,000 to summa cum laude, P20,000 to magna cum laude, P10,000 to cum laudes and P5,000 to Dean’s awardees.

Board passers also received cash incentives of P40,000 (1st place), P30,000 (2nd and 3rd place), P20,000 (4th to 10th place) and P10,000 (non placers).

There was also an oath taking for the newly elected CTEAP officers.

During the event, Emperio credited the CTEAP for his success.

He said that through the program, he was able to finish his studies at the University of San Jose-Recoletos and graduated magna cum laude last October 2011.

He received P40,000 cash for graduating magna cum laude and for placing ninth in the CPA board exam.

“Nothing is impossible. If you want to achieve something, work hard for it. Dwell on becoming a better you. When you wake up in the morning, ask for BMW BMW BMW, bless my work, bless my wisdom and be my way,” Emperio said in his message to fellow scholars.

Emperio is among the 51 scholars under CTEAP. In his batch, 3 graduated magna cum laude and 33, cum laude.

Currently, CTEAP has a total of 462 scholars.

To become a CTEAP scholar, a student must belong to the top 10 of graduating class from public high school and his or her family income must not be higher than P220 daily. /Correspondent Joy Cherry Quito
