Landmasters sweep Goldberry to win Shaabaa crown

It was heartbreak all over again for Goldberry Suites as they were swept by the Cebu Landmasters in the best-of-three finals series after the latter won Game Two, 59-45, in the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association last Sunday at the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu campus in Canduman, Mandaue City.

The Landmasters used the momentum that they gained from their close Game One win to dominate the game from start to finish. After leading by just one after the first canto, the Landmasters outscored Goldberry, 17-10, in the second and continued that upswing in the third which they would end on top, 39-28.

Goldberry tried to come close but the Landmasters’ Lery Chik scored six straight to keep their opponents at bay. Gino Reyes then hit a three-pointer that sealed the victory and the title for the Landmasters, thus denying Goldberry the crown for the second year in a row.

Franco Te paced the winners with 12 points while Earvin Lopena added 11. Jeremy Huang paced Goldberry with 19 but the team suffered with the sub-par performance of many-time league MVP, Dave Lim, who managed just nine. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
