IN THE KNOW: Flat ‘uno’

/ 04:15 AM April 12, 2011

MANILA, Philippines—A Commerce graduate of the University of the Philippines (UP) holds the distinction of having earned a “flat 1” before World War II, a check with the Office of the University Registrar showed.

Pamela Constantino, UP registrar in Diliman, Quezon City, identified the graduate as Exequiel Sevilla, who had a general weighted average of 1.0 in completing a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree.

“There is no more BS Commerce now. So, we plan to make a list of the top graduates since 1908. Maybe after the graduation (on Sunday),” Constantino told the Inquirer.

But asked if John Gabriel Pelias would come in second to Sevilla, Constantino declined to reply categorically.

“That, we still have to find out if he is next to Sevilla. We will still have to research on that,” she said. Julie M. Aurelio
