THE LETRAN Knights leaned on an explosive third period to defeat the Arellano University Chiefs, 75-68, to gain a shot of the second seed and the twice-to-beat advantage that comes with it in the 88th NCAA men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Letran outscored its opponents, 22-6, in that fateful third-quarter stretch to seal its 12th win in 18 games.
Letran is chasing San Sebastian and is half a game behind the Stags, who still have one game remaining against the defending champion San Beda.
Kevin Alas and Kevin Racal had 24 and 15 points, respectively, to lead the Knights to the victory.
The Chiefs finished the season with a 6-12 mark and was led by the 18 points of former Sacred Heart-Ateneo de Cebu ace Julius Cadavis./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
