Storytelling sparks imagination and creativity in every child.
A batch of grade school pupils from Saint Theresa’s College (STC) and Mayor A.S. Fortuna Memorial Elementary School shared the fun in sharing stories in an afternoon of “Story Hours” at Banilad Town Centre (BTC).
In line with National Heroes month, stories of Filipino heroes were shared last Aug. 25. The pupils were all enthusiastic listening to “Chenelyn! Chenelyn!” and “The Story of a Man” as retold by Lorna Eguia,University of San Carlos librarian. The children also shared their own stories and even impersonate the characters in it.
The students from STC also donated books to the library of Mayor A.S. Fortuna Memorial Elementary School to promote reading.
Story Hours is a two-hour monthly storytelling session held every last Saturday of the month.
For the month of September, the storytelling session was held last Sept. 29 in observance of the 40th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law. It featured stories that revolved around the theme “freedom.”
Pupils from Small Wonders Academic Center and Cabancalan Elementary School listened to the stories told by featured storyteller lawyer Haide Acuña, ABS-CBN news anchor and Cebu Daily News’ sports columnist.
Organized by the BTC in partnership with Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Read-along program and the Basadours’ I Love to Read project, the storytelling also included a book drive and story writing activities that allowed the 60 students from both schools to experience an interactive fun learning session.
