‘Prince’ Pagara decisions Tampus

Balamban, Cebu— Rising prospect “Prince” Albert Pagara beat veteran Marvin Tampus via unanimous decision in the main event of the fight card held Friday night in Balamban, Cebu.

Tampus, a former PABA champion, was competitive in the early rounds but Pagara stepped up his body attacks and also scored well with his head shots.

Tampus tried to press and land hooks in the subsequent rounds, but Pagara relied on his sharp jab and crisp combinations to widen his lead. Tampus, who hails from Bato, Leyte, finished the fight with welts and swelling around his right eye. Pagara, who traces his roots to Maasin City, Southern Leyte, won by scores of 100-90, 99-92 and 99-91. He also stretched his unbeaten streak to 13 with nine KOs while Tampus dropped to 27-16-2, 18 KOs.

Gerpaul ‘TI Yamagata’ Valero of the TI Cebu-Flores Boxing Gym, won by TKO in the first round against ALA Gym prospect Mharjun Macahilig.

Macahilig was the early aggressor and landed hard body shots, but Valero tagged him with two hooks to the jaw and Macahilig crashed to the canvas. He got up on wobbly legs but signaled he wanted to fight. Valero pounced and sent Macahilig down two more times prompting Referee Ben Necessario to stop the bout at 2:45.

Macahilig (15-3, 9 KOs) was stopped by Arden Diale early this year but bounced back to stop Jovel Romasasa in four rounds in his last bout. Valero (12-13-3, 8 KOs) was a fighter with a losing record before he was rehabilitated by trainer Brix Flores and blossomed under the GMA TV Boxing reality show “Buhay Boksingero” where he won the superflyweight division.

In the undercards: Mark Vincent Bernaldez beat Albert Villacampa by unanimous decision; Jojo “Flash’ Intor brought his comedy act to western Cebu and engaged Takaomi Naoma of Japan in a fiery rematch. Intor had the crowd roaring with laugther and also won on all the judges’ scorecards.

Roma Rate won by TKO in the sixth and final round against Sherwin Caday. Rate sent Caday down in the 4th round and the latter was bleeding from the nose and receiving severe punishment in the 6th prompting referee Teddy Alivio to halt the bout at 1:27.

Crispin Parba won by TKO in the fourth and final round against Jeffrey Segara. Referee Ben Necessario stopped the fight at the 45-second mark.
