DENVER “The Excitement” Cuello-Singwangcha of the Philippines will battle Ivan Meneses of Mexico in a non-title bout today at the Auditorio del Bicentenario, Morelia, Mexico.

Promoter and manager Aljoe Jaro e-mailed this writer that Meneses is three inches taller than Cuello but his boxer is unfazed. “Cuello is used to fighting taller men and he has knocked them out,”Jaro said.

Cuello weighed in at 109lbs while Meneses came in at 110lbs during yesterday’s official weigh-in. Cuello (31W-4L-6D, 21 KOs), the WBC Silver titlist in the minimumweight division, will make his fifth appearance on Mexican soil. Cuello fights with the name Singwangcha to honor his sponsor, Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha.

Cuello is the No. 1 WBC contender in the 105lb division and wants to show the world that he is ripe for a world title shot. He looks forward to fighting the winner of the WBC world minimumweight title fight held in China between Zhao Zhong and Javier Martinez of Mexico.  /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre
