2012 Centcom football fires off today in Lahug

FOOTBALL players will gather at the Central Command grounds in Apas today to compete in the Centcom Football Cup for Peace and Unity which is part of the camp’s celebration for the month of peace.

Teams seeing action are Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, Hijas de Jesus’ Phoenix, Dinamo, VEPS, Woodridge, Suba Basbas, Central Lapu-Lapu, Talisay Don Bosco Rascals, Barili, Canduman, Lahug, University of San Carlos-North, Consolacion, St. John of Kinty and host Warzhockz.

This seven-a-side football festival will have categories for players 8 and 10, and boys 12 and 14 with champion teams and runners-up per category going home with medals and trophies.

This event is spearheaded by Centcom camp commander Maj. Gen. Jose Mabanta, and is sanctioned by the Cebu Football Association.

Tournament director is former national team member Alex Ballesteros.

The tournament will also serve as Centcom’s contribution in developing football in the grassrooys level here in Cebu. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
