Women lawyers set regional convention

THE Federacion Internacional de Abogadas (Fida) Philippine Branch Inc., an international organization of women in the legal profession, will host the Fida regional convention for Asia at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel in Cebu City on Oct. 3 to 5.

The convention with the theme, “The role of women lawyers in global issues” will be attended by Fida lawyers from all over the world.

The activity will also convene the executive council of Fida International headed by president Shella Anish.

Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 3 at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel. The business sessions will be conducted on Oct. 4 and 5 at Marco Polo Hotel.

Topics include human trafficking; basis of the problem and rights beginning from the family; Taiwan women lawyers in the forefront of preventing violence against women and children; Europe and Italy: Positive legislation and experience to defeat violence against women and children; Human rights-equal rights criminal justice system; Cybersex, cyberpornography and other cybercrimes and women and the environment.

The opening ceremonies will be held on Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the ballroom of the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.

Attire for the opening ceremonies will be the delegates’ national costume.

The fellowship night will be held at the Social Hall of Cebu Provincial Capitol at 7 p.m. This will be attended by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

The delegates will be treated to a tour, sampling of native delicacies and entertainment by the governor on Oct. 5 at 1:30 p.m.

The registration fee for the 3-day convention is P4,000.
