Catholic nurses guild to hold convention

THE Catholic Nurses Guild of the Philippines Cebu Chapter will hold its first local convention on Sept. 28 at the Mariner’s Court, Associated Labor Union compound on Arellano Street, Cebu City.

The convention with the theme “Nurses: Responding to the gospel call for love and care” is expected to gather around 300 Catholic nurses in Cebu City.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will deliver the keynote address. The program will start with a Eucharistic celebration officiated by Rev. Fr. Benjamin Trazo, the organization’s spiritual adviser.

The convention will tackle topics relevant to the current challenges among Catholic nurses, including “Nursing more than a profession” by Fr. Trazo and “Virtue of health care professionals” by Dean Antonia Pascual of the School Health Care Professionals.

CNGP is an association of Catholic nurses with the objectives of promoting the spiritual, personal and moral welfare of nurses in the country; cultivate nursing practice that is compassionate, competent and ethical; foster fellowship and cooperation among its members and promote social action and lay apostolate.

Its officers include Dr. Carmelita Villanobos, president; Norma Hinoguin, vice president for program and planning; Dr. Marylou Ong, VP for finance; Merlyn Ouano, secretary; Elena Jumao-as, assistant secretary; Emma dela Peña, treasurer; Jonotte Labrador, assistant treasurer; Trinidad Tan, auditor, Dr. Parolita Mission, Col. Erlinda Oliva and Letecia Canoy, public relations officers; Dr. Delia Mediano, Sr. Gaudelia Baluyot, Gloria Jane Matiga, Edna Caballero and Hemenia Fernandez, board members. The Nominations and Elections committee is composed of Josephine Montecillo, Dr. Alma Ungab and Emelyn Remedio. The adviser is Dean Antonia Pascual.
