Journalist Vitug to launch ‘Hour Before Dawn’

“THE Hour Before Dawn: The Uncertain Rise and Fall of the Supreme Court” Cebu launching today.

Journalist Marites Dañguilan-Vitug once again takes a closer look into the country’s judiciary with her new book, “Hour Before Dawn: The Uncertain Rise and Fall of the Supreme Court.

The book which is a sequel of her 2010 book that rocked the Supreme Court, “Shadow of Doubt” will have a launching in Cebu City at the University of San Carlos Audio Visual Room located at the USC Law and Business School Building at 6 p.m. today.

As revealed by the author, The Hour Before Dawn, “takes the reader to what might have been the darkest hour of the Philippine Supreme Court, when its integrity was compromised by the actions of the Chief Justice, who was subsequently impeached, and by a series of highly irregular reversals of its own rulings.

The Hour Before Dawn was first launched last Sept. 21 at the Fully bookstore in Bonifacio High Street in Taguig.

Sidlak turns 9, holds forum on RH

IN celebration of its ninth founding anniversary, the Sidlak Gender Resource Center-7 will hold a public forum on the proposed amendments to the Reproductive Health (RH) bill today at 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cebu Normal University (CNU) Tandang Sora conference hall.

The activity is in collaboration with the CNU, Population Commission, the Department of Health (DOH) and the Civil Service Commission.

Gabriela partylist Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan is the resource speaker. A panel of reactors includes Dr. Jucel Ann Jumao-as of CNU, Dr. Leny Ocasiones of the University of San Carlos Anthropology department and a representative from DOH.

Praise and worship fellowship

THE Miracle Hour Encounter will present a praise and worship fellowship on Oct. 6, from 7 p.m. to to 11 p.m. at the CAP Building on Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City.

The guest speaker is Bro. Noe Dura of CCTN TV Cebu, together with Sister Eden Dura, both active members of the Oasis of Love Community, a Catholic Charismatic movement.

Miracle Hour Encounter is composed of men and women who are commonly using the prayer of “Miracle Hour,” authored by Linda Schubert and foreword by Rev. Robert DeGrandis, SSJ.

One of the miracles of the prayer is it enabled one to be attached to the Word of God, living a day not contented without reading the Bible and meditate with the help of “The Word Among Us” monthly meditation guide.

The Miracle Hour Encounter holds monthly teaching night activities about 30 doctrines of the Catholic church.

The activity will start with a Holy Rosary, Holy Eucharistic and praise and worship. Admission fee is P50. For inquiries, call Robby Alugar at 4129452.

Public warned vs text scams

THE National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is warning cellphone owners not to believe in text messages informing them that they won in a lottery or a raffle draw or asking load or other favors.

Those who received such messages may report to the NTC. They may bring their cellphone bearing the fake messages and fill up a complaint form.
