Veteran broadcast journalist Jun ‘Bote’ Bautista; 73

MANILA, Philippines—Seasoned broadcast journalist Auguro Camu Jr., a.k.a. Jun “Bote” Bautista, 73, died past 9 a.m. Tuesday due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to radio reports.

His remains were brought at St. Alphonsus Mary de Liguori Parish on Humabon Street, in Magallanes Village, Makati City.

Bautista covered the Senate for GMA News before he retired about a few years ago. He covered the police beat during Martial Law.

He was called “Bote,” because he was known to drink heavily, said INQUIRER Senate reporter Cathy Yamsuan.  “Bote” is Filipino word for bottle.

FEATURED STORIES

After retirement, “Bote” was a well-loved fixture in the closed Remembrances, a piano bar in Malate where media men used to hang out.

Details on the interment are yet to be announced.
