USC dethrones SHS-AdC

THE YOUNGSTERS of the University of San Carlos completed their undefeated run through the Cebu leg of the 2012 Milo-backed BEST Twin Tournament Small Basketeers of the Philippines competition with a resounding 67-31 thumping of the reigning champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in the championship game last Sunday at the Aznar Coliseum.

The Baby Warriors were simply in a class all of their own as they won all seven of their games by an average margin of 34 points.

Last Sunday’s game proved to be no different as they led, 15-9, after the first canto before blowing the game wide open in the ensuing period where they outscored the Eagles, 13-4, for a 32-13 halftime lead.

Joshua Enriquez paced the winners with 16 points while Carl Jovellanos added 10. Jholo Pakkana was named as the tournament MVP.

The championship is the first for USC as a unified unit between the North and South campuses.

In the game for third place, the University of the Visayas (UV) overcame a slow start before subduing Cebu Eastern College (CEC), 62-44.

It was a triple celebration for USC as USC North-C came from behind to nip USC South/St. Arnold, 41-38, to win the SBP division title of the CYBL D-League. USC South-B topped UV-B, 43-32, to win the CYBL D-League Passerelle division./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
