Orange stuns Red in MCWD hoop

ORANGE upset powerhouse Red, 92-73, last Saturday to advance to the semifinal round of the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD)-2012 Sportsfest basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial gym.

The sizzling hot tandem of Army Marata and Barry Caparas pushed Orange to a, 29-16 lead in the first quarter before Red rallied in the second with a, 23-8 run to turn the tide in its favor, 39-37, at the half.

The 3rd period was just as close with the game tied at 54-all before Orange outscored Red in the fourth, 38-19 for the 19-point victory.     Army Marata led Orange with a game-high 33 points spiked by five triples while Barry Caparas added 26 markers.

Epeng Mission and Sidney Mancao paced Red with 18 and 15 points, respectively.

Despite the loss, Red remained at the top of the standings after sweeping the elimination round while Orange is in 2nd place. Both teams will enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage in the semis against Dark Blue and Black.

The annual event is made possible through the efforts of Jude Godin, a commissioner of the tournament.
