Today, Sept. 25, is the 133rd birth anniversary of the late writer Lope K. Santos. Considered as the Father of the National Language and Grammar, he was born in Pasig in 1879. He wrote for and edited several Tagalog publications, including “Sampaguita,” the first Tagalog national weekly which he founded. His “Balarila ng Wikang Pambansa” became the official textbook for teaching of the national language. He died on May 1, 1963. Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
