The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) will soon have a new police chief.

Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac confirmed that Senior Supt. Petronelli Baldevrin will replace him as the next MCPO director. The two police officials are part of the Philippine National Police Academy Batch 1987.

Gillamac said he will assume the post that will be vacated by Baldevrin at the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7).

Gillamac said there’s no specific date yet for the turnover.

Gillamac was assigned as officer-in-charge of MCPO in January 2010 before he became the permanent police director a year later.

The outgoing MCPO chief said transforming the MCPO members into well-disciplined personnel was one of his achievements.

He said one of the changes that he implemented was the adjustment of the working duty of the policemen.

Except for special units, there were policemen who were only asked to work for 12 hours instead of the usual 24-hour duty.

“Instead of the quantity of time, I am for the quality rendered for public safety and services,” said Gillamac. “Kato man gud nga duty nila murag wala na sila commitment kay kapoyon na sila.”

Under his leadership, Gillamac also established the MCPO Cooperative which caters the needs of the Mandaue police.

The cooperative gives P10,000 to any policeman whose house will be damaged by fire or any calamity. In case of death, P20,000 will be given to the policeman’s relatives. P5,000 will be given to a policeman in case of death of an immediate family.

An MCPO member who is studying will be given P3,000 as cash allowance while P5,000 will be given for those going on overseas schooling.

The MCPO cooperative has also conducted feeding and livelihood programs.

Gillamac said he also implemented an anti-crime program where a policeman can conduct arrest even outside his jurisdiction.

“Crime has no boundary. Criminals from Lapu-Lapu go to Mandaue and vice versa,” Gillamac said.

The strategy also helps monitor some policemen who are involved in illegal activities.

Gillamac said he also considered as one of his achievements as MCPO chief the arrest of Marites Velasco and her four cohorts in the ambush of Debbie Yu in Aug. 04, 2010.
