EAC keeps semis hopes alive

THE EMILIO Aguinaldo College Generals kept their flickering hopes for the Final Four alive as they beat the St. Benilde Blazers, 73-64, in the 88th NCAA men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.

In the second game, the Letran Knights also got an inside track of the last two spots in the Final Four as they crawled back to beat the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 70-59.

The Knights broke a two-way tie at third and fourth places with their victims and improved to 10-6 (win-loss) for third place in the standings. The Bombers dropped to 9-7 for fourth place.

EAC upped its standings to 7-9 while its victims fell further to 4-12.

Franz Chiong was the catalyst behind the EAC win as he scored 15 of his 20 points in the last two periods, where the Generals kept the pressure on.   /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
