SOLO, Indonesia — Indonesian police say they have arrested eight militants suspected of planning suicide attacks and seized homemade bombs and other explosives.

Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said Saturday that an alleged bomb maker, Muhammad Toriq, who surrendered two weeks ago led police to two of the suspects, who were arrested Friday in Central Java’s Solo town. They were interrogated and led police to six other group members.

He said police seized five pipe bombs, explosive materials, three rifles, four swords, and several jihadist books.

Toriq told police that he had planned a suicide attack on Sept. 10, targeting police or an elite anti-terrorism squad.

Since March, police have arrested about two dozen militant suspects and killed seven in a series of raids. All were plotting domestic attacks against Indonesians.
