Train hits, kills 76-year-old woman in Manila

MANILA, Philippines—A 76-year-old woman was crushed to death by a train in Manila Friday morning, a city traffic investigator said.

Valentina Arceo died on the spot when after she was hit by a southbound Philippine National Railways train in Sta. Mesa, Manila around 10:30 a.m., said Senior Police Officer 4 Rosalina Impal.

Radio reports said the train was travelling on a curved portion of the railway when the accident happened. The operator was quoted as saying that he was able to pull the breaks, but was too late.

Police were investigating the incident.
