‘Lawin’ threatens Luzon

MANILA, Philippines—A weather disturbance may intensify into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau said Thursday in its latest bulletin issued at 11 a.m.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the active low pressure area was spotted 1,010 kilometers east of southern Luzon.

However, it was still too far to affect any part of the country, Pagasa said.

Once it becomes a cyclone, it will be named Lawin, it said.
