THE People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) and the Philippine Association of Secretaries (PAS) will hold their first ever half-marathon (21-kilometer) race dubbed as “Synergy Run” at the Parkmall, Mandaue on Nov. 18.
The race aims to raise funds for PMAP and PAS’s beneficiaries – the Bonita Girls Home and the Tulay National High School respectively. PAS’s beneficiary, the Bonita Girls Home is a shelter for abandoned and abused girls while PMAP is helping student scholars of Tulay NHS and improving the school’s facilities.
Around a thousand runners are expected to join the race according to Mariza Espinoza, president of PAS during yesterday’s official press conference held at Parklane International Hotel along with PMAP President Jonan La Fuente, Chairman Malou Villamal and race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE).
“We decided to come-up with a running event to raise funds for our charity causes because this sport is trending these days. Running also gathers a huge number of participants. We at PAS are also running enthusiasts,” Espinoza said.
The organizers decided to name the race “Synergy Run” because at least three groups are involved in it: PAS, the PMAP and SAFE of Baring.
Aside from the 21k, other categories are 12k, 6k and 3k with Kenyan runners only allowed to join the 12k race in order to give local runners a bigger chance winning. This decision however, was finalized only yesterday.
Organizers are also inviting schools to take part in the race. Registration fees for students are: P150 for 3k and P200 for 6k. Regular registration fee for the two distances are P300 and P350. The 12k fee is also pegged at P350 while the 21k race entails a registration fee of P550 inclusive of refreshments, singlets and goodies.
As of this writing, 239 runners coming from X Libris have already enlisted to join the race.
More than P60,000 in cash prizes, medals and trophies and gift certificates will be given away to the category winners.
