800 racers vie in Run for Community
AN ESTIMATED 800 runners are expected to answer today’s starting gun for the Run for Community Empowerment of the Bag-ong Sugbu Foundation Inc. at the Fuente Osmeña rotunda.
According to Bag-ong Sugbo Foundation Inc.’s executive director Elizabeth Cabahug, the number could still increase since they will still accepting entries before the gun start at 5:30 a.m.
The event is held in partnership with the Abante Barangay Movement and Urban Poor Alliance (UP ALL), members of other non-government groups and people’s organizations like the Cebu Coalition for Food Security.
Some of the runners will be from the urban poor sector, who are the beneficiaries of the race. Students and non-government organization members will also join the race together with some elite runners. The race will feature 3-kilometer, 5K and 10K categories.
This fund-raising activity will benefit the urban poor communities, homeowner’s associations and different barangays of Cebu City. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
