Wait for President’s word

I think President Benigno Aquino III   respected the investigation conducted by the late secretary Jesse Robredo of some sensitive matters that might involve Undersecretary Rico Puno of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

There is no need to question Malacañang’s deafening silence about the allegedly irregular transactions. The mere fact that the Palace confirmed there was an investigation shows that the administration gave it the go signal.

Let’s just wait for the President to reveal to the public the results of the investigation into Puno’s attempt to enter the late secretary’s condominum where he kept an office. President Aquino just got back from  Russia after attending the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation affair.

All we have today are basically  rumors about the alleged attempt of Puno to enter Robredo’s office.  It’s  best to wait for the President to speak on  the matter.

I think it’s about  time the public respects  whale sharks and refrain from making them a tourist attraction in Cebu.  The activity has been shown to alter their natural behavior and lead to their harm.

While we welcome the appearance of  whale sharks in the waters off Oslob town and many have made money bringing people to see these creatures up close, it’s time to  allow them to live at peace in the wild.  More harm will come to them if  local fishermen  continue the practice of feeding them.

Government officials are concerned that the whale sharks may just leave Oslob if we stop feeding them but protecting the marine animals  is foremost in the minds of marine researchers and environmentalists who are asking people to stop making the sharks dependent on human feeding. The whale sharks are good to behold but unfortunately we have not acquired the skills to take good care of them.

Now that there are new political alignments in the Cebu Provincial Board, the public is expecting the new majority to look closely into the budget proposals from the Office of the Governor.

Lately  Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia  presented for approval a supplemental budget but  the board is not in a hurry to pass it. Personally I am happy that we have an opposition in the board but I am against a legislative body that  blocks and opposes proposals coming from the executive branch  that ultimately paralyzes the work of the government as is happening in Cebu City.

PB  Member Arleigh Sitoy used to be the lone member of the opposition Liberal Party (LP) but now has many allies after some left  One Cebu  to join LP. Sitoy is no longer alone  but is in happy company.

One can never foretell political developments in our province today. It’s  difficult to read the minds of  politicians.

In the case of Sitoy, he has shown his consistency and his political savvy as a first-time board member in dealing with what used to be the majority One Cebu members allied with Governor  Garcia. I would dare say that Sitoy is the politician to watch since he is a survivor and a hard worker.
