Mom seeks help for son with kidney disease

Barangay health worker Sonia Dumdum, whose daily tasks include looking after the City of Manila’s malnourished children, is calling for donors who can help her sick son.

“I have become a regular visitor at the Senate every Monday and Thursday where I ask for medical assistance for my son who has chronic kidney disease,” she said.

These are also the days her 28-year-old son, Guillermo Dumdum, is scheduled to report at the Nephrology Center of Manila in Malate, Manila for his twice-a-week dialysis sessions which cost P1,950 each.

After every session, Guillermo also needs injections to keep his hemoglobin at normal levels. Each shot costs P1,200.

Sonia said that her son used to help her out with the family’s expenses when he worked as a bagger for a supermarket.

Due to his illness, however, he has been forced to stop working. The family has since become dependent on her earnings as an employee of Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital as well as that of her husband, Clementino, a pedicab driver.

Those who want to help the family with Guillermo’s medical needs can call Sonia at 0917-3309931. Donations can be deposited in her daughter-in-law’s BDO bank account (Carmencita Dumdum with account number is 530249022).
