Technical foul-ups disrupt LRT 1 and 2 operations

MANILA, Philippines – Light Rail Transit 1 and 2 operations were hampered Monday morning, leaving many of train passengers stranded for hours.

A Radyo Inquirer 990AM report said that the LRT2 had to implement half line operations from Santolan to Cubao at past 8 a.m. after one of its trains lost power at its Legarda Station.

The LRT 1 also had to go on code red due to a defective train at its Edsa station. Under a code red alert, all train services are suspended due to technical issues.

The disruptions irked many of the train passengers who took to social networking sites such as Twitter to air their disappointment.

But LRT Authority spokesperson lawyer Hernando Cabrera assured them that it was for safety reasons that their trains are programmed to halt operations when it encounters technical issues.

Cabrera replied to complaints over his Twitter account (@attycabs), assuring train riders that technicians were working on the issues.

LRT2 resumed operations 8:30 a.m. while the LRT1 lifted its code red alert by 9:42 a.m., he said.
