DEFENDING champion Super Idols nipped host team Eagles, 69-63 at the start of the 9th IBP-2012 basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym.
The game was close from start to finish but Super Idols rode on the breakout performances of Reiner Apolinario, Benjo Macion and Fermen Pepito in the fourth for the six-point win.
Ian Santos led the Eagles with 22 points.
Earlier, rookie team the Dissenters drubbed Bhutakalz, 69-54 with Giovani Sususco and former UC Webmaster Kern Sesante scoring 15 points apiece. Van Ligutan paced Bhutakalz with 21.
In the other game, Pecandela Law Firm routed Rama Boys, 79-37 with Tommy Yu scoring 23 points. Al Limalima paced the losers with 14 markers.
Meanwhile, Paneros whipped Los Demonyos, 75-56 behind the 25 points of forward Michael Molde. Jun Pintor and Lito Ortiz paced Los Demonyos with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
