Ex-cop slain amid loud stereo sound

If it hadn’t been for the discovery of an abandoned car with bloodstains in Pampanga province, the body of its slain owner—a former

policeman—may have never been found in Novaliches, Quezon City.

According to the police, Senior Police Officer 2 Virgilio Pesquisa, 55, who used to be a member of the Pasay City traffic enforcement unit before he went Awol (absent without official leave) in 1993, was stabbed repeatedly and bludgeoned to death with a dumbbell.

His half-naked body was found by his son Wednesday morning inside the victim’s temporary house at DRJ Subdivision, Novaliches.

The police said that based on the condition of the body, Pesquisa may have been dead for at least 48 hours.

Case investigator Police Officer 2 Julius Caesar Balbuena said that the victim’s room appeared to have been ransacked as it was in disarray.

He added that someone had also left the victim’s stereo at full volume in an apparent attempt to mask the sounds of a struggle inside the house or the victim’s shouts for help.

Senior Police Officer 1 Jaime Gimena of the Quezon City Police District’s  Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said they were looking at the possibility that the victim’s killers—believed to be his two houseboys identified only as Ben and Joven—used his red Hyundai Accent (TIK 617) as a getaway car.

After the vehicle was found abandoned in Mexico, Pampanga, the police verified who the owner was and called up the victim’s house in Caloocan City.

Novaliches City which was undergoing renovations.

The police talked to Pancho, the victim’s son, and informed him about the discovery of his father’s car.

This prompted Pancho to check on his father Wednesday morning.

Balbuena said they have yet to determine the motive for the attack as the family was still making an inventory of the valuables inside the house.

Meanwhile, the police have started looking for the victim’s two houseboys who have since disappeared.
