Off-duty Caloocan cop killed in accident

An off-duty policeman was killed on Sunday night after he was run over by a truck in Grace Park, Caloocan City.

The Caloocan City Police Station’s Traffic Enforcement Unit identified the victim as Senior Police Officer 1 Enrique Matawaran, assigned with substation 3 of the city police.

He was on his way home when the accident happened.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide have been filed against the truck driver, Hilario Padayhag, who surrendered to the police afteward.

Police Officer 2 Ferdinand Manapat said that at 9 p.m. on Sunday, the victim was driving his motorcycle on Rizal Avenue Extension when the truck hit him.

Padayhag fled but he later surrendered to the Caloocan police through the intervention of a policeman friend.  Nathaniel R. Melican
