ILIGAN CITY, Philippines—Several towns in Lanao del Norte were still without power on Monday, two days after fire reportedly hit the old cable system of the National Power Corp.’s Agus 6 hydroelectric power and caused outages in the entire province.

As of 10 a.m. Monday, power has not been restored in eight of the province’s 22 towns.

Lawyer Ver Quimco, Mindanao Chief Legal Counsel of the National Grid Corp., told the Inquirer by phone that a short circuit caused the fire on a control cable system, which connects Agus 6 to the switch yard.

Quimco denied reports that an NPC facility was attacked.

“It was a very huge damage, but (it was) not due to terror attack,” he said.
