FORMER WBC world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro will start his climb back to the top when he battles former WBC world light flyweight champion Edgar Sosa in a rematch, this time for the latter’s WBC Silver Flyweight belt in Mexico City on Oct. 13, 2012.
Promoter Aljoe Jaro, who manages Jaro, informed Cebu Daily News of his boxer’s upcoming fight as they kick off their rebuilding process aimed at regaining the world crown which Jaro lost to Toshiyuki Igarashi of Japan last July.
Sonny Boy lost to Sosa by unanimous decision four years ago in his bid to win the WBC lt. flyweight title. Last March, Jaro electrified the boxing world by scoring a stunning 6th round TKO upset win over Pongsaklek Wonjongkam of Thailand for the WBC flyweight title. He would lose to Igarashi by split decision in Japan four months later.
The 30 year-old Jaro is from Silay City, Negros Occ. His stablemate, Denver Cuello, holds the WBC Silver minimumweight title.
Sosa vs. Jaro will be staged by Oswaldo Promociones of Mexico. Team Jaro has set their sights on the winner of Igarashi’s first title defense against Nestor Daniel Narvaes of Argentina.
Sosa lost to Wonjongkam last year by unanimous decision but bounced back with three straight wins against Roilo Golez of the Philippines, Wilbert Uicab of Mexico and Shigetaka Ikehara of Japan. The 33 year-old Sosa lost his WBC lt.flyweight title to Rodel Mayol of Mandaue City by second round TKO in 2009. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr
