CEBU CITY, Philippines—A man held a 7-year-old girl hostage Wednesday morning, demanding he be given transportation money so he could go to his home province of Bohol. He landed in jail instead after two hours.

The girl, a grade 2 pupil, was playing outside her house past 9 a.m. when a neighbor, Paul “Junjun” Guigue, grabbed her and brought her inside his house in the CRCI compound in Barangay Apas, Cebu City, witnesses said.

Police said Guigue, who was armed with a pair of scissors pointed at the girl, demanded he be given P500 so he could return to Bohol.

The hostage situation ended two hours later when police negotiators convinced Guigue to release the girl and surrender to the police, who took him to the Cebu City Police Office on Gorordo Street.
