Tan breezes past foes to win 3k crown in ‘I Ran My Part’

RISING TRIATHLETE Rochelle Tan cruised to an easy win in the 3-kilometer category of the Night Race for Flood Victims: I Ran My Part last Saturday night at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

Tan crossed the finish line at the Cebu Doctors’ University campus grounds in 13 minutes and 43 seconds to win the female 3k title of the fund-raising event put up by the Run for Sight Foundation and television network ABS-CBN.

According to organizers, the event managed to raise P50,000. This will be used to buy medicines needed for flood victims in Luzon.

Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III of the Run for Sight Foundation and ABS-CBN news anchor Leo Lastimosa were present during the race.

Finishing far second in the 3k female race was Phoebe Cotamora (17:57) while third placer was Honey Yap (18:47).

Topping the men’s 3k class was Elvin Rey Flores (10:23) followed by Tyron Tan (11:54) and Jessie Lord Abejo (12:38).

Top three placers in the 6k men’s category were Charlie Berberio (20:58.33), Bonifacio Monjas (20:58.69) and Generoso Patindol (21:52).

Winning the 6k women’s crown was Rejeli Sumaya (32:15). Second placer was Elsa Cetz (33:24) while Ann Buac settled for third (37:54).  Handling the race for a cause was Joel Baring of SAFE. /Correspondent Dale Rosal
