Shell Nat’l Youth chess Visayas tilt starts today
THE BEST and young wood pushers in the region clash in the 20th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championships Visayas Leg today at the SM City Cebu Activity Center.
The annual major tournament initiated by Shell Petroleum Philippines will feature two divisions for both boys and girls.
The juniors class is for players 20 years old and below while the kiddies class is for players in the 6 to 14 years age bracket.
Cebuano Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano won all his nine assignments in the kiddies class to rule the Davo leg last weekend to gain a slot in the national finals slated October.
Cagayan De Oro’s Kenneth Honculada joined Sevillano in the national finals after finishing second.
The top two placers in the Visayas leg’s kiddies and juniors division will also advance to the finals. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
