Accidental gunfire at Naia wounds cop

An aviation policeman at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) was wounded Wednesday night when a gun belonging to another officer posted nearby accidently went off.

Cpl. Reynold Mata of the Naia police department was brought to San Juan de Dios Medical Center in Pasay City after sustaining a gunshot wound on the left hip.

Police Officer 3 Paul Armas of the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group said Mata was  doing paper work at a Naia-Terminal I departure checkpoint when he was hit by a bullet from a 9-mm pistol owned by Cpl. Christopher de Guzman.

The gun went off after De Guzman, who was then frisking passengers, put it gun down near the X-ray machine.  Jerome Aning
