UV tries to extend run against archrival UC

THE University of the Visayas Green Lancers face off against a foe it knows all too well today in reigning champions University of Cebu Webmasters, in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Lancers are aiming for their fifth straight win and more importantly, gain even more steam heading to their blockbuster match-up with the Southwestern University Cobras this Sunday.

The Webmasters  on the other hand, have taken everybody by surprise as they stand with a 2-1 (win-loss) record and are coming off a morale-boosting, 64-61 win over SWU in their last outing.

Still, UC has their work cut out for them with Brian Heruela expected to do the heavy lifting against the deep and talented crew of UV led by their Cameroonian recruit, Steve Cedric Akomo and Wowie Escosio. The guards are also expected to play a huge role in this game’s outcome with UV boasting of Phil Mercader, Eman Calo and John Abad.

In juniors play, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles aim for their fifth win in a row when they tangle with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers.  /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
